The Dromore River Catchment Mapping project has resulted in a web-based mapping platform, or geographic information system, where members of the public can engage with data-driven spatial data that represents real world landscape features. The maps are fully interactive where visitors have the opportunity to toggle feature layers and data sets on and off, adjusting the transparency to view layers which lie beneath. The system will also include some simple analysis tools and other features to allow users to engage with the maps in a more meaningful way.

Our geospatial specialist, Dominic Robinson, describes the process of developing the geographic information system (GIS) of the Dromore River Catchment:

Dominic is a GeoSpatial Specialist and lecturer based in the School of Geography, University College Dublin. His background is a blend of historical and heritage geographies with rural development. Most recently, Dominic has been working with the Citizen Rural Research Lab as their GIS expert on several research projects in rural development. Dominic is also a freelance GeoSpatial Consultant working, most notably, with rural community groups to help them to explore and engage with their environment through data and GIS, whilst also developing and delivering GIS courses for secondary school students.
